What is Kayak Polo? Kayak polo is a team sport (5-on-5) where players paddle high-performance kayaks, pass a ball to each other and try to score in their opponent's goal. Tackling your opponents (by pushing them over) is perfectly legal, making the game super fast, physically intense, full of strategy and extremely fun to play. We also offer beginner-friendly games for first time players. If you're interested in getting started playing kayak polo, we have a few different options for you. Get Started Playing Kayak Polo! Here at Nebraska Kayak Polo, we take a very beginner-friendly approach to learning how to play kayak polo. We set aside time each week to introduce absolute novices to the sport of kayak polo. When you participate in one of these beginner games, you will be playing with other people who have never played kayak polo, and most of them will have ZERO experience in a kayak. During our Intro to Kayak Polo sessions, we'll teach you the rules of kayak polo, teach you some basic paddling strokes, give you some time to practice paddling around and then we'll play a kayak polo scrimmage. We use beginner-friendly sit-on-top kayaks for these intro sessions, so you don't need advanced paddling skills like the Eskimo roll. These beginner games are casual and a lot of fun. Here's some video footage of one of a typical beginner game:
