About Us

Here at Nebraska Kayak Polo, we focus on introducing complete beginners to the sport of kayaking. We believe that anybody can learn high-end paddling skills, regardless of your age, experience, athletic ability or geographic limitations. Our fun, friendly, professionally certified instructors will make you feel very comfortable getting into a whitewater kayak for the first time. If you have some experience in a whitewater kayak, our instructors have the skill and experience to take your paddling skills to the next level.

We provide the best kayaking equipment available, so you don't need to invest in expensive kayaking equipment. Whether you want to paddle around on the lakes, float down one of the local rivers, play some kayak polo, or join us on one of our regularly scheduled whitewater kayak instruction trips, we have the gear, experience and network of great people to make doing so easy, affordable and really fun. We are, hands-down, the best resource for learning to kayak in the Midwest.

*2-Hour Paddling Basics Class

When: Thursday nights from 6:30-8:30

Where: Lake Zorinsky (use the 168th Street Entrance between Center and Q Street)
Cost:
$35
If you've never been in a kayak before, this class is the perfect place to start. When you take the 2-hour Paddling Basics class, we'll start you out in one of our beginner-friendly sit-on-top kayaks. An instructor will spend the first hour teaching you some basic paddling techniques, including forward strokes, backward strokes, a variety of turning techniques and how to link many of these strokes together. The instructor will then take you on a guided paddle around the lake to give you a chance to practice paddling. There is generally time for you to paddle around on your own, or with friends. There are often several other people at the lake taking other classes, and if there are enough people, an informal game of kayak polo usually breaks out, which we encourage you to join.

*4-Week Kayak Rolling Fundamentals:

Rolling a kayak is the art of using a little hip-flick and paddle sweep to roll a kayak right-side-up after you've tipped over. Sounds easy, right? It's sort of like learning to hit a golf ball nice and smoothly, except you're updside-down and under water! Anybody can learn to roll a kayak, but it does require a good level of comfort in the water, and lots of hands-on help from an instructor. Each person will progress at a different rate, but our 2 to 1 instructor to student ratio will assure you of getting plenty of personal attention, along with rolling instruction that matches your learning style, ability and comfort level. If you've got some experience rolling a kayak, taking this class would be a great way to develop stronger rolling skills, and even learn a variety of rolls (hand roll, ball roll, back deck roll, etc...). Given our experience teaching the kayak roll, and our instrtuctor to student ratio, we have a very high success rate in teaching people to roll a kayak.
