Just a few answers to some frequently asked questions:
Q: Do I have to find a team to participate with? A:
No. There are no organized teams at this event, but participants are
encouraged to group up and work together. Most participants will
gravitate towards other people of similar athletic ability, and work
together to keep on the trail.
Q: I'm not a runner. Am I going to be left behind? A:
We have people of ALL ages and fitness levels participate in this event, and
everyone has a blast. There will be virtually no sense of competition
at this event. Our top priorities are:
1. to have everyone have fun
together as a group, and; 2. to have everyone finish safely. Those who
"race" to finish first generally don't have a mind for either--so we
usually give them a good-natured mocking afterward at the bonfire!
Q: Are kids welcome to come to the Sloppy Dog? A: Absolutely! We generally have lots of kids at our Sloppy Dog events, and they have a great time. Kids who are able to keep up on a fast-paced hike in the woods will do just fine on the Sloppy Dog trail. However, there will be beer stashed on the trail, so we ask that underage participants be supervised by a parent or a reasonably responsible adult.
Q: Why don't you tell us where the event is going to be held? A: History has proven that this event tends to draw lots of unregistered participants, which wreaks havoc on our food and beer estimates. When you register, we'll add your name to a group email list, and we'll send driving directions and specific details to you about three days before the event.
Q: Are you crazy? A: Yup!
Sloppy Dog Event Information:
By popular demand, NKP's Sloppy Dog "Steep Hill" Chase Trail Run event has been turned into a semi-annual event. The Fall sloppy dog will be held on Saturday, September 26th.
What is the Sloppy Dog
"Steep-Hill" chase? Well, it's a chase, not race. Think of it as a
game of pursuit, where participants work together to stay on trail. A
pair of "sloppy dogs" will depart from the pack with a head start, equipped with a bag of baking flour and a backpack of beverages.

The Chasers Learning the Trail Markings
With a series of mysterious markings, the sloppy dogs will lead you (and mislead you) any place their wily
and devious little hearts desire. The muddier, scratchier and steeper
the better. You will find your way through the forest by following a
trail that the sloppy dogs mark with little
piles of baking flour. While the route through the forest will be
well-marked and easy to follow, it will also contain several
crossroads, where a false trail or two will branch off into dead-ends.

Chasers Trying to Find the "Trail"
It is the job of the speedy leaders of the pack to explore the possible
false trails while everyone else can take a rest and wait for the
true-trail to be found. The trail will also be marked with a mandatory
pit-stop or two, where the pack can regroup and rehydrate with
carbohydrate rich beverages stashed by the sloppy dogs.

Pit-Stop Motto: Leave no Beer Behind

Sloppy Dog Participant in a Heroic Effort to Save a Beer
The trail will ultimately lead to a spot where a hot meal and and cold beverages will be served around a warm bonfire.

WHEN: Saturday, September 26th TIME: 5:00 PM WHO: Anybody who's idea of a good time is running/scrambling/mucking/bush-whacking through the woods and getting covered in mud. COST: $25 (includes good beer, cheap plastic souvenir cup, spaghetti & meatballs, bread, salad, smores and lots of fun people) LOCATION: It's a secret. We'll tell you when you register--but it'll be accessible to people in both Omaha and Lincoln. WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH KAYAK POLO?: Nothing, except that people who enjoy beating each other up in kayaks generally enjoy this sort of thing.
*We are setting an
early-registration deadline of Monday, September 21st at 10:00 PM. If
there are any spots remaining after that, the cost for late
registration will jump to $35.
*Registration will close on Friday, September 25th at noon.
